Chapter 28: Spring Dream
Outside the house, it was still early, with a gray and hazy sky.
The heavy rain that had fallen all night had just stopped.
The accumulated water on the roof dripped down the tiles of the eaves onto the ground, making crisp “drip-drop” sounds.
In the old house in the west of the village.
Inside the bedroom, two people were sleeping quietly on the red-lacquered wooden bed.
Their even breathing intertwined, adding a layer of ambiguity to this pitch-black room.
The man who was sleeping soundly suddenly turned over. He seemed to be having a nightmare, his fine eyebrows furrowed high.
His sharp lips opened and closed, his expression both shocked and frightened.
He stretched out his hand, unconsciously grasping, but only touched a hard wooden pillow at his side.
With a sweep of his long arm, that wooden pillow that had been lying across the middle of the big bed was pushed to the foot of the bed.
He rolled sideways towards the inner side of the bed, and his body collided straight into a soft form.
His hand unconsciously explored under the separate brocade quilt, using both hands and feet to pull the warmth he had finally hooked into his arms.
In the dark night, the furrowed brows of the man sleeping in his clothes relaxed, his crimson sharp lips curved into a beautiful arc as he lay on the woman’s shoulder, falling into deep sleep once again.
—
Pei Yuanshao had a dream.
In the dream, a cold voice asked, “Do you know what is the Way?”
He heard a male voice identical to his own chuckle and say, “Tsk tsk tsk, now that your soul is shattered, what use is there in thinking about such things? It must be that old fellow from the Nine Heavens fooling you, that old thing is most skilled at confusing people’s hearts…”
The cold female voice in the dream said, “Oh!”
“Hey hey hey, what’s with that expression? Don’t believe me? Let me tell you, this sword grandfather was once the number one divine weapon in the Nine Heavens Divine Realm. Even that old fellow from the Nine Heavens had to kowtow three times and bow nine times when he saw me.”
“You’re so powerful, then teach me how to leave this deathly quiet sea of consciousness of yours?”
The gray space fell into silence.
After a long while, the voice identical to his own in the dream said softly, “Isn’t it good to just stay and talk with me?”
That cold female voice paused for a moment before saying, “But if I stay in your body, won’t you… won’t you be uncomfortable?”
“Hmph~! I… can endure it. As long as you… don’t move around inside me! It’s too ticklish.”
“Alright then. Huh? Why did you manifest your weapon spirit form in front of me again? I’m already consuming a lot of your divine spirit energy by being inside your body. If you do this again, I’m afraid your soul will disappear too, won’t it?”
In the dream, a pair of jade-white hands slid from his sharp-featured face to the side of his throat.
“Be good, don’t appear.”
The scent on her body was extremely alluring, a rich fragrance of grass and wood wafting into his nostrils.
The scent was sweet but not cloying, faint yet bewitching.
Pei Yuanshao didn’t know why he suddenly appeared in this gray space.
Looking at the pair of hands stretched out before him, his heart pounded violently.
The trembling coming from the depths of his soul forced his sharp lips to part slightly. As the enticing fragrance lingering in his nostrils came in waves, he was left with only the instinct to breathe heavily.
Those jade-white hands lingered at his throat as if toying with grapes, but only in that one spot.
He unconsciously took two steps forward, closing the distance with the hands, yet his heart still felt empty, as if wanting something but not knowing how to get it. His body was burning hot, as if he had a fever.
He pressed his lips together, his ink-black eyes filled with a hint of bewilderment and uncertainty.
But the white hand before his eyes, whether intentionally teasing him or not, simply wouldn’t comply with his wishes. After a long while, it still remained properly stretched out before him, not moving an inch.
He pressed his lips together, glaring fiercely at those fingertips that were causing him to feel restless for no reason, impatiently grabbing them.
He roared irritably, “So indecisive, are you going to do it or not? If not… I’ll do it myself.”
—
“What are you doing?”
A surprised voice came from beside his ear. Pei Yuanshao suddenly opened his eyes. Was that just a dream? He belatedly looked at the familiar bed curtains, cold sweat breaking out on his back, and raised his eyes to meet a face with a strange expression.
Following her gaze, he looked down. He saw that he had somehow crawled into her quilt, and at this moment, his left hand was tightly gripping her wrist, attempting… to act improperly.
Pei Yuanshao opened and closed his mouth, a faint pink color spreading across his sharp-featured face. As if he had been set on fire, he let go of her hand and pulled up the brocade quilt nearby, covering himself completely.
His heart was pounding loudly, and the shame hidden beneath his clothes wouldn’t let him calm his agitation.
He hid under the quilt, his body as stiff as a desperate fish.
Pei Yuanshao moved his stiff eyeballs with difficulty, his eyes filled with indescribable self-loathing.
He had become aroused by a pair of hands in his dream, and upon opening his eyes, he had tried to force the farm woman to do those shameful things from the dream. If he hadn’t reacted quickly, would he have already guided her hand into his underwear by now?
Thinking of this possibility, the agitation on Pei Yuanshao’s body spread from his chest all the way to his face.
He glared fiercely at the shame inside the quilt, hating this uncontrollable body of his.
Having contracted a strange disease, he had turned into a true lecher. From now on, that farm woman beside him would surely look down on him even more.
Pei Yuanshao stared blankly at what was below him, biting his tongue until it bled. Blood seeped from the corner of his mouth, allowing him to regain his senses from the burning heat, preserving his last shred of dignity.
Liu Changning glanced at the thin quilt bulging not far away, completely bewildered.
Her sleep schedule was very regular. Last night, the temperature wasn’t high, and the bedding was soft and dry, so she had slept soundly until daybreak. When she opened her eyes and woke up, she found herself sleeping foot to foot with someone.
Her convenient husband had half his body burrowed into her quilt, sleeping with an innocent face.
Considering that if an ancient young man woke up to find himself in a woman’s quilt, even if her convenient husband wasn’t a chaste man, he would still be angry for half a day.
Liu Changning thoughtfully didn’t disturb him, carefully moving her body out and pulling out the quilt from the outer side of the wooden bed, planning to quietly resolve this morning’s awkwardness.
But she hadn’t expected that her outstretched hand would be grasped by the man beside her who was still sleeping groggily.
