Chapter 4: The Farce Escalates
The old house allocated to the original host consisted of four low, earthen houses standing side by side.
Backed by a mountain, the sun couldn’t directly shine in. Opening the door, a damp and chilly smell greeted the nose.
From the moment Liu Changning entered the room, her brows were tightly knitted. She pursed her lips and raised her eyes to survey the original host’s room, her expression becoming even more unpleasant.
The layout of this earthen house was simple and crude, with items strewn in disarray. Apart from a simple wooden bed, the rest were just sundries and wood. With the door wide open, dust particles could be seen floating in the air throughout the room.
This place was originally a woodshed. Because of her conceited husband, the original host had given up her own bedroom for the male lead to reside in.
She had built herself a simple wooden bed using wood and made do with it. The bed was covered with straw, and the bedding was washed until it turned pale, covered with patches. As one approached, a musty smell assailed the nostrils.
Who knows what the original host was thinking? Marrying a husband but sleeping in separate beds, offering him the best food and drink, serving him tirelessly, while she herself lived like neither a human nor a ghost.
More importantly, the husband seemed to show no gratitude in return, either physically or emotionally, and instead, he became increasingly brazen, placing one green hat after another on her head.
Even though this was a female-dominant society, where women were supposed to support men and bear social responsibilities, such a level of support was truly suffocating.
Liu Changning took a deep breath. Although she had mentally prepared herself earlier, actually seeing the original host’s living conditions, her disgust reached its peak at this moment.
As the first life of the old ancestor and the second life of the modern white-collar worker Liu Changning, both were wealthy and beautiful women with long legs. Handsome men eagerly pursued them, but never had anyone shamelessly enjoyed the original host’s near-life-draining support like the husband of this body, relying on his good looks.
She narrowed her eyes, and just as she was about to move, a dull pain emanated from her stomach in waves.
The original host hadn’t eaten for an entire day. She had gotten up at the Yin hour today and went to the fields at the Mao hour. Under the scorching sun, she had toiled for three to four hours, leading to her death from overwork.
Liu Changning held her aching stomach with one hand and supported herself against the wooden door with the other, shuffling her steps and struggling to walk out of the woodshed.
She needed to replenish her body with food. If this continued, even if she possessed heavenly skills, if her body’s energy was depleted, she wouldn’t have the chance to utilize them.
The kitchen was on the right. She pushed open the door.
The earthen kitchen counter was bare. Entering the room, she searched the entire kitchen, only to find a stale, hard mantou with an odor.
She stared at it with disdain for a long time, closed her eyes, pinched her nose, and ate the “food” with cold water.
As the moldy mantou entered her mouth, her entire oral cavity was filled with an indescribable sour smell of mold. Liu Changning frowned and rinsed her mouth with water repeatedly until her lips were red and swollen before stopping.
With food in her stomach, the fatigue in her body surged like a tide. Even though Liu Changning had experienced two lifetimes and had a strong soul, she couldn’t resist the overwhelming drowsiness.
She dragged her injured ankle back to the woodshed.
Lying on the hard wooden bed filled with straw, inhaling the pungent musty smell, she closed her eyes in a daze.
Thus, when Pei Yuanshao returned to the room after resolving his amorous debts, he went hungry for the first time since his exile.
—
Perhaps due to exhaustion, when Liu Changning woke up, it was already early morning the next day.
She was awakened by the clamor outside the house.
Shrill curses came in waves. She propped herself up with her hands, narrowed her eyes, and surveyed her surroundings.
Firewood was stacked in the corner of the room, and wood shavings were scattered on the floor. Beneath her was a hard wooden board that creaked with her movements as she sat up. This place was still that woodshed!
Sunlight slanted into the room, casting upon her somewhat dazed, waxen face, devoid of any beauty.
As she regained her senses, the cursing voices from outside became increasingly clear, pouring into her ears.
“Shameless wretch, debaucherous husband!”
“How dare you seduce my wife-master? Today, I’ll report you to the authorities and have you drowned in a pig cage in the pond!”
“As a husband, instead of assisting your wife-master in educating the children, you spend your days flirting around the village.”

I Regained My Memory the Day Before Marrying My Arch-enemy
Here I am again, introducing another novel from my reread list! Ya!!!
The female lead is a fierce and powerful demon king. The male lead is a once-in-a-millennium celestial lord, admired by the entire cultivation world.
They are equally matched, legendary rivals who have battled for centuries.
In the final duel, the female lead is gravely injured. The male lead saves her, seals her memories, and hides her true identity. He tells her that he is her fiancé. His entire life has been flawless—except for the one thing he never expected, never controlled, and never wanted to control: falling for his greatest enemy. She is his inner demon, his obsession.
When the female lead regains her memories, she is furious at his deception.
She makes his life a living hell.
And somehow, the male lead—possibly a total masochist—doesn’t mind at all. In fact, he’s happy she’s paying attention to him.
Yep, we’re back to my favorite trope: male lead suffering. If you love this kind of story, jump into the pit with me now!!!
Intro
Dong Xia lost her memory.
Her handsome and extremely powerful fiancé Li Qing comforted her: “It’s okay if you can’t remember. I’ll always be with you.”
Everyone thought Dong Xia’s ancestors must have burned incense to get such a perfect fiancé. He was the number one person in the immortal realm, yet he remained chaste and only loved her.
…
The day before marrying her fiancé, Dong Xia finally remembered everything.
She wasn’t suffering from memory loss at all.
Her arch-enemy had made her fake her death, destroyed her cultivation, replaced her memories, and pretended to be her deeply in love fiancé.
No wonder he said, “It’s okay if you can’t remember”!
Dong Xia laughed coldly as she pulled out her long knife: Li Qing, prepare to die 🙂
*
Li Qing, as the supreme being of the immortal realm, was the people’s shining beacon.
The only unknown stain in his life was his affection for Dong Xia, the ruler of the demon realm.
In the final battle of the war between immortals and demons, the sky collapsed and the earth shattered. The ruler of the demon realm was finally slain under the sword of the supreme being of the immortal realm, and everyone in the immortal realm applauded.
The cultivation world lost a ruler of the demon realm.
And in the back mountain of Li Qing’s cave dwelling, he secretly hid away a fiancée.
Notes:
1. The female lead is white on the outside, black on the inside, and the queen of flattery; the male lead repeatedly tests the edge of darkness, a VIP guest at the crematorium.
2. Fantasy cultivation world setting.
