Chapter 48: She Was Always the Bride in Playing House
Such thoughts often surfaced in his mind, something that simply could not be changed. It seemed that from the very beginning, there were some omens indicating that he would become insecure in this relationship, this marriage.
Li Zhenguan now resembled a mushroom buried under decaying leaves beneath a tree on an overcast day, his entire being exuding a gloomy atmosphere characteristic of rainy days.
Wang Zhao sighed, “Zhenguan, you should learn to trust yourself a little, and trust me too. Besides, whether there are many people of the opposite sex in our firm or not has nothing to do with me. When I’m at work, I always wear my wedding ring. Everyone at the company knows I’m married.”
She couldn’t understand Li Zhenguan’s uneasiness, but she could only try to be tolerant. There was no need to get angry at a pregnant man, was there? Also because of the pregnancy, Li Zhenguan’s skin had changed, his figure had become bloated, there were some spots on his face, and his whole person seemed to have had some vitality absorbed by this child.
Li Zhenguan looked up at Wang Zhao. Under her gaze, his emotions gradually calmed down. After one glance, he couldn’t help but lower his head, wanting to curl up entirely under the pillow. Now he was truly blushing profusely and felt too embarrassed to look at Wang Zhao.
Causing such a commotion in the middle of the night, he also felt awkward, especially if Mom and Dad found out tomorrow, it would be truly shameful.
Wang Zhao, however, remained unchanged in expression. She turned on the lamp beside them and took out a set of clean clothes from the cabinet, placing them on the bed.
During this period, because of his pregnancy, Li Zhenguan sometimes liked to sweat, but he also needed to maintain cleanliness, often needing to change clothes. However, now that the weather had turned cold, bathing too frequently could easily lead to catching a cold. When the heating was on for a long time, he felt dry and stuffy and uncomfortable. Several humidifiers placed in the room were of no use.
So, they didn’t keep the heating on all day, because this wasn’t the north, and there was no centralized heating. They relied on air conditioners or heaters for warmth.
Li Zhenguan also saw Wang Zhao’s actions. He sat up from the bed and went to the bathroom to change into clean clothes. Wang Zhao sat on the edge of the bed and scrolled through her phone. It was only around 3 o’clock now, the sky outside was still dark, and Wang Xuechun and the others were still asleep. Now that it got dark early and light late, it probably wouldn’t be fully bright until after 7 o’clock.
Although it was very late, some students were already on holiday, and the internet was still bustling. Wang Zhao scrolled through the news and her email, found nothing of note, and was about to put down her phone when Li Zhenguan’s voice came from behind the bathroom door.
He called her name.
“Wang Zhao, can you come in for a moment?” Li Zhenguan had taken off his clothes but found he couldn’t reach his back. His movements weren’t as nimble as before, and now he couldn’t even muster the strength to wipe his back, it was very troublesome, sometimes he needed Wang Zhao’s help.
After about ten minutes, Wang Zhao supported Li Zhenguan out of the bathroom. The floor inside was slippery. Last time, Li Zhenguan had nearly slipped and fallen on the ground. Fortunately, he had grabbed the door handle in time and didn’t fall to the ground. If he had fallen, it would surely have been a big problem.
Since then, whenever Li Zhenguan went to the bathroom, she would pay close attention, especially when he bathed at night. A person with a big belly looked very clumsy making any movement.
After Li Zhenguan lay down on the bed, Wang Zhao put the dirty clothes in a basket and took them outside, putting them in the washing machine to clean before returning to the room.
She met Li Zhenguan’s gaze and softened her voice, “Go to sleep, it’s very late now.”
She was actually very tired too, because the firm had been very busy lately. After all, it was the end of the year, and every industry was busy at year-end.
She had a client who suddenly came to see her at 9 o’clock yesterday, so she got off work very late yesterday, arriving home at around 10:45. After taking a shower, it was already past 11.
Zhang Ke and Wang Xuechun were already asleep, and so was Li Zhenguan, but he woke up almost as soon as she got home. It seemed he had been waiting all along, only falling asleep in the middle. She had called home from the company saying she would probably get off work around 11, otherwise Li Zhenguan would probably have been sitting in the living room waiting the whole time.
Li Zhenguan yawned. All his energy had been spent on crying earlier. He was already prone to sleepiness at this time, and as soon as Wang Zhao said this, he felt drowsy.
“You should get in bed and sleep too, you still have to go to work tomorrow.” This place was a bit far from Wang Zhao’s company, it took about forty minutes to drive there. Usually, he had to get up at around 7:45, eat breakfast, and then rush out the door.
Previously, there was a thought of renting a house near Wang Zhao’s company. It wasn’t expensive, the housing prices in that area were quite cheap, probably only one or two thousand for a single room.
But Li Zhenguan wasn’t very happy about it. He proposed to go together, and he could also take care of her. To be honest, his cooking skills were quite good now, he had been learning from Zhang Ke for a month or two.
Of course, Wang Zhao didn’t agree. If Li Zhenguan went with her, it was hard to say who would be taking care of whom. She would probably have to worry about whether this young master could take care of himself living in such a place while she was at work.
So, she had to give up that idea and get up half an hour earlier, eat breakfast at home and then drive to work. Otherwise, given Li Zhenguan’s current clingy attitude, they would probably have to rent a whole apartment there, and the monthly expenses might equal the salary her company was currently paying her.
The room returned to darkness. After a while, hearing the soft breathing from beside her, Wang Zhao slowly fell asleep.
The next day, she had some difficulty getting up. Being woken up in the middle of the night yesterday had left her sleep-deprived. But Li Zhenguan was still asleep. Afraid of waking him, Wang Zhao tiptoed out of the room with her toiletries, only to find that Zhang Ke was already up, wearing protective clothing and a mask, holding a long brush and cleaning the house.
Wang Xuechun was no longer at home at this time. She got up very early every day and had to be at school before 7 o’clock, so sometimes she didn’t even eat breakfast at home.
“Why are you cleaning today? Didn’t we say we’d clean together when I’m free on Sunday?” Wang Zhao came out of the bathroom, wiping her face as she spoke.

If you’re like me…
Too tired of reading stories where the female lead is often foolish, weak, feeble both physically and mentally, usually in a subservient and oppressed role in society such as a maid, secretary, concubine… or to put it bluntly, typically the one who has to serve and please the male lead, always needing protection and rescue from male leads, while the male lead is often described as talented, strikingly handsome, powerful,…
Then please continue reading.
Hi there, girls!
I’m Yuushi L.
Every day, movies and comics continuously reinforce the notion that women are weak, that they can only handle trivial matters in the background, that women are petty-minded and constantly jealous, mocking, and laughing at other women, while men are strong, wealthy, and solely focused on conquering the world, with countless mindless women ready to fall into their arms.
Believe me, once you read Female-dominant (FEDO) novels, your mindset will change significantly.
I am deeply inspired by strong, independent, and rational women who have the power to take control of their lives, and I am fascinated by the way society’s gender roles are reversed in this genre compared to real life.
So I have created this web with the noble purpose of promoting the “Female-dominant (FEDO)” genre of novels.
In my country, there was a rare renowned female poet in ancient times who wrote the following about the fate of women in that era:
“Damn this life of sharing a husband,
One wrapped in warmth, the other left cold.
I’d rather have stayed single from the start,
Than to endure a life so torn apart.”
Perhaps my penchant for reading female-dominant stories is partly a way of rebelling against the realities of life.
On my site, there will be stories that are not only female-dominant novels, as long as they align with my taste, featuring strong female protagonists and fresh, captivating storylines. Usually, they will be modern or fantasy novels.
I rarely read ancient novels that aren’t female-dominant because they often contain details that easily trigger me. These include the portrayal of men having multiple wives and concubines, which was considered utterly normal in ancient society, and the frequent disdain towards women.
I cannot change the world, as the societal structure that discriminates against women and elevates men has existed for thousands of years. Changing it to truly give women an equal role in society is not something that can happen overnight. If you want gender equality now, it’s laughable. It will never happen when over 90% of national and business leaders are men.
But I can start by changing the mindset of women, sisters, and young girls. Don’t just read dull slogans urging women to be strong and independent; it’s hard to imagine. Read Female-dominant (FEDO) novels to see clearly what true female empowerment looks like.
I believe there will be more and more independent and strong women who prioritize their careers and personal stability over seeking a man to rely on.
In the future, there will be more successful female entrepreneurs, politicians, and thought leaders.
As for me, I will start by making this website grow stronger day by day.
I especially like the concept of “the male lead falls in love first, the female lead is the cold-hearted and rational one, and the male lead suffers because the female lead doesn’t reciprocate his feelings.”
Therefore, you’ll see that most of the novels on my website will belong to this trope. Of course, there will be exceptions.
In the future, I also plan to write my own novels following this concept, where the female lead in my stories will never be the weaker party. I hope I can do it soon.
The novels I highly recommend will be listed under the category:
There will be exceptionally brilliant stories, but there will also be mediocre ones. As the Female-dominant (FEDO) genre has fewer authors and readers, the number of high-quality novels is limited.
Therefore, I want to promote this genre to reach a wider audience, which will encourage more talented authors to choose to write in this style, leading to the birth of more outstanding Female-dominant (FEDO) novels.
The Chinese versions of the novels I use for translation are all sourced from various websites on the internet. You know, I don’t have much budget to purchase so many novels.
Therefore, if your financial situation allows, please support the authors by purchasing the original works. You can find the original works using the Chinese titles of the novels.

WARNING:
In some novels, there are certain unhealthy ideologies and illegal actions held by the main characters (for example, treating human lives as worthless, or casually deciding to kill someone, forcing others to do things they don’t want to do, arbitrarily imprisoning others, plotting to harm others, using violence to retaliate against violence,…).
This may be because the authors are still young and inexperienced, unaware that what they’re writing goes beyond moral standards and can negatively influence young readers.
It’s important that readers under 18 years old need to recognize these are illegal actions, not permitted to be carried out in real life, always keep a clear head while reading, treat these works only as entertainment, and don’t let yourself be influenced by those plot points.
