Chapter 46: Supporting This Utopia, She Will Build It
The next day, early morning.
When Mu Jiulu woke up, the young man lying on the inner side was still sound asleep.
He was lying on his side, one hand pillowed under his chin, legs curled up, looking quiet and obedient.
Mu Jiulu couldn’t help but raise her hand to gently brush over his brow bone, pushing aside the stray hair at his temple to reveal the delicate eyebrows and eyes beneath. Her fingertips caressed his skin, lingering reluctantly.
These days, he had been preoccupied with matters and hadn’t rested well. Even in his sleep, his brows were furrowed, making Mu Jiulu’s heart ache.
“Meow.”
A soft cat’s meow sounded out. Mu Jiulu scooped up Sui Sui, who was lying between the two of them, and whispered in its ear.
“Don’t disturb him. Go play by yourself.”
The just-awakened Sui Sui was mercilessly thrown to the ground, its lake-like eyes full of accusation.
“Meow…”
Mu Jiulu glanced over, and Sui Sui’s voice immediately weakened.
“…Wuu.”
The aggrieved Sui Sui ran to the corner. Mu Jiulu paid it no more attention, resting her chin on her hand as she lay beside Gu Sui. Her gaze traced over the young man’s skin inch by inch, and after a long while, she let out a light sigh.
She should have kept him in a golden house, to be a carefree young man, but now she had let him be tainted by these troubles.
Her gaze suddenly fell on Gu Sui’s right hand that was exposed from under the blanket. His fingers, like slender bamboo, reached out. She lightly traced over the complex engravings on it.
Tracing back to the root, it was still because of her.
A wave of tenderness welled up in Mu Jiulu’s heart. She couldn’t help but lower her head, her crimson lips lightly touching the young man’s forehead, gentle and lingering.
“Sleep well, my Sui Sui.”
This utopia, she would build it.

Gu Sui didn’t know where he was now. He seemed to be treading in mid-air, his body somewhat floating, as if in a dream. But the burning sensation in his heart was so real that he couldn’t help but furrow his brows.
Black, thick fog enveloped him. His eyes were pitch black, unable to see anything clearly. He only heard a gloomy and eerie voice asking him.
“She’s about to die. Don’t you want to save her?”
It seemed to come from an extremely distant place, yet it also seemed to sound within his heart, with a kind of sticky suction, wanting to drag him into the abyss.
Gu Sui wanted to open his mouth to ask who it was, but his body was completely out of control. His lips moved a few times, but the words that came out were:
“She won’t die, how could she die…”
The trembling voice, filled with unease, echoed in the vast environment. Immediately after, a deep, eerie laugh covered his voice.
“How could she not? That’s the Yuntian Secret Realm. She actually wants to plug the crack by herself. Heh, overestimating her abilities.”
“Shut up! I won’t allow you to speak of her like that!”
The anger in the young man’s voice overshadowed that tremor. The black mist before his eyes kept churning.
“She’s already unconscious. Soon her soul will scatter.”
The bewitching voice sounded again.
“Don’t you want to save her?”
“I…”
“Now only you can save her.”
“What… do I need to do?”
The black mist’s leaping amplitude grew larger. It seemed to be desperately pouring into the young man’s body, extremely excited.
“Then listen to me. I guarantee you can save her.”
“Ah–”
Bone-corroding, intense pain spread throughout his body. In the black mist, the black-clothed young man clutched his chest, half-kneeling in the void, cold sweat pouring down. The pressure from the mist made it hard for him to breathe, almost causing him to faint.
“Ah!”
Gu Sui suddenly opened his eyes. His gaze fell upon the magnificent mural on the domed ceiling of the palace. He breathed heavily, calming his emotions. Cold sweat had dampened the stray hairs on his forehead.
It was just a nightmare.
Gu Sui exhaled a turbid breath. The pain from just now still lingered in his memory, making him tremble slightly. His chest also felt stuffy.
“Meow?”
Sensing something was off with its master, Sui Sui called out. Gu Sui looked over at the sound, first startled, then smiled helplessly.
He picked up Sui Sui who was lying on his chest.
“Sui Sui, oh Sui Sui, I haven’t seen you for just a month, how did you get so heavy?”
It was pressing on him so he could hardly breathe, and even made him have such a horrifying nightmare.
Sui Sui licked his hand uncomprehendingly, its lake-blue eyes innocent and clear, looking incredibly guiltless.
Gu Sui couldn’t bear to blame it anymore. He hugged it tightly to his chest and took several deep sniffs, messing up its smooth fur.
“Meow meow meow!”
“Haha, Sui Sui is so cute.”
Gu Sui woke up and had his fill of cuddling the cat. He put down the thoroughly ruffled Sui Sui and got up, only to realize something seemed off.
“Huh, where’s Mu Jiulu?”
*
City Lord’s Mansion, Hanqing Pavilion.
Mu Jiulu still wore that silver mask, her crimson lips as alluring as poppies. She leaned back on the wide golden throne like an emperor.
She wore a red robe with wide sleeves, her long hair casually gathered halfway up and secured at the back of her head with a blood jade hairpin. The rest cascaded down like a waterfall. Her entire being exuded an air of unruliness.
If not for those extremely familiar with her, who would dare recognize this City Lord Lu Yu as the current dynasty’s cold and merciless Regent clad in dragon robes?
Yingge knelt in the open space before her, even restraining her breathing.
“Yingge, I gave you power. Was it for you to use him as bait?”
The deep voice, as oppressive as a cold pool, slowly transmitted over.
“You’ve grown quite bold.”
Yingge’s downcast eyes blinked nervously: “Master, please don’t be angry. I just…”
“Just what? You took matters into your own hands by inviting him to the banquet, letting him witness with his own eyes how those people died, and not concealing his identity at all.”
The person on the throne let out a cold snort: “Yingge, if he suffers even the slightest mishap, you won’t escape death.”
The merciless words carried an overwhelming pressure. Yingge dared not quibble further and obediently admitted her mistake.
“This subordinate accepts punishment. I will go find the young lord to beg forgiveness right away.”
“Find who to beg forgiveness? What forgiveness?”
Sui Sui led Gu Sui into Hanqing Pavilion. Behind the young man followed Sui Yu and Yun Mu, whose necks were somewhat sore.
Last night, seeing that the young master hadn’t come out for a long time, they had tried to force their way in but were ambushed by people from the City Lord’s mansion and slept through the night.
Heaven knows how scared they were when they woke up this morning, but they soon saw their young master. Seeing the familiar white cat in his arms, they somewhat doubted reality.
Shouldn’t it be at the Regent’s mansion right now?
“How did you find your way here?”
Mu Jiulu stood up from the golden throne and walked towards him.
